Omri Casspi - First Israeli to play in the NBA

Thursday, October 29, 2009, By Edward Herman

Omri Casspi (born June 22, 1988 in the city of Yavne, Israel) is the first professional Israeli basketball player to play in the NBA. Omri was drafted 23rd overall in the 2009 NBA Draft by the Sacramento Kings, making him the first Israeli to be selected in the first round of the draft. He is 6 feet 8 inches (2.03 m) tall and he plays at the small forward position.

Casspi's premier performance was worth the wait, he had a nice debut at Oklahoma City on Wednesday while scoring 15 points off bench in 19 minutes, shooting 5 for 7. He also had three rebounds, one block and one steal.

"After 2000 years of exile and 63 years of the NBA, he did not disappoint the firm" declared the Israeli website Ynet.
